Epson ET-2750 Waste Ink Pad Reset Guide

If your Epson ET-2750 has stopped with the message “A printer’s ink pad is at the end of its service life”, this guide explains what the warning means, how the waste ink pads are usually accessed, and why the internal counter needs to be reset afterwards.

At a glance

  • The Epson ET-2750 uses internal pads to absorb waste ink during cleaning and maintenance cycles.
  • When the printer believes the pads are full, it may stop printing until the issue is resolved.
  • Replacing the pads alone may not clear the message because the internal waste ink counter also needs resetting.
  • A USB cable is usually required for the reset step.
  • This repair is carried out at your own risk and may affect your printer warranty.

On the Epson EcoTank ET-2750, waste ink from cleaning cycles is absorbed by internal pads inside the printer. Once the printer estimates that these pads are full, it may lock out and display a warning that the ink pad is at the end of its service life.

In many cases, the printer will not continue printing until the waste ink pads have been replaced and the waste ink counter has been reset. The counter reset is important because the printer does not automatically know that the pads have been changed.

Epson’s own guidance usually recommends using an authorised service centre for this type of repair. However, many out-of-warranty users choose to carry out the process themselves with care.

Important before you start

This is a printer maintenance task and should only be attempted if you are comfortable working carefully with ink-soaked parts. Waste ink can stain surfaces, hands and clothing, so protect your workspace and handle the old pads safely.

What you’ll need

  • A replacement waste ink pad set for the Epson ET-2700 / ET-2750 family.
  • Alternatively, you may be able to use this Epson maintenance box: Epson C13T04D100 Maintenance Box.
  • A small Phillips screwdriver.
  • A plastic pry tool or tweezers.
  • Paper towels and disposable gloves.
  • A USB cable for the waste ink counter reset step.

Step-by-step: replacing the waste ink pads

  1. Power down and prepare the printer
Turn the printer off, unplug it from the mains and place it level on a covered surface. Waste ink may drip, so it is worth protecting the area underneath the printer.
  2. Open the rear-right service area
On the back-right of the Epson ET-2750 there is a small cover held in place with a screw. Remove the screw and lift off the cover. You should then see another screw holding the grey waste pad carrier. Remove this screw too.
  3. Release the waste pad carrier
Carefully unclip the small tabs along the grey carrier and lift it out. Before removing the pads, it is a good idea to take a quick photo so you can check the correct pad orientation when fitting the replacements.
  4. Swap the pads
Remove the old ink-soaked pads and fit the replacement pads in the same position. Make sure the pads sit neatly inside the carrier before refitting it.
  5. Reassemble the printer
Refit the waste pad carrier, tighten the screws and replace the rear cover.

Reset the waste ink counter

After replacing the waste ink pads, the printer error will usually remain until the internal waste ink counter has been reset. This is because the printer tracks waste ink usage internally and does not automatically detect that new pads have been fitted.

One commonly used option is the WIC Reset Utility, which is available for Windows, Mac and Linux. You will usually need to connect the printer to your computer using USB rather than Wi-Fi.

WIC Reset Utility steps

  • Download the WIC Reset Utility: https://www.wic.support/download/
  • Connect the Epson ET-2750 to your computer using a USB cable.
  • Open the WIC Reset Utility.
  • Select Read Waste Counters.
  • Buy or enter a reset key.
  • Select Reset.
  • Power the printer off and back on again.

FAQ

Isn’t this a service-centre job?

Epson’s own guidance usually says that waste ink pads are not user-replaceable and recommends contacting an authorised service provider. DIY replacement is carried out at your own risk, but it is a common repair on out-of-warranty printers.

Do I have to reset the counter if I changed the pads?

Yes. The printer tracks waste ink usage internally. Even after changing the pads, the warning will usually remain until the waste ink counter is reset.

Can I reset the counter without replacing the pads?

Technically, yes, but it is not recommended if the pads are genuinely saturated. If the pads are full, resetting the counter without replacing them may risk ink overflow inside or underneath the printer.

Do I need to connect the printer by USB?

Yes. For the reset stage, it is best to connect the Epson ET-2750 directly to your computer using a USB cable rather than Wi-Fi.

Will Cartridge World replace the pads for me?

Cartridge World can help you identify suitable printer consumables and maintenance items, but waste ink pad replacement is a printer repair task. If you are unsure, we recommend speaking to a qualified Epson service technician.
