How to Turn On Toner Continue Mode on Brother Printers

Seeing a Replace Toner message? On selected Brother laser printers, Continue Mode may allow you to keep printing temporarily until the toner cartridge reaches the end of its usable life.

Brother printers are normally set to stop printing when the toner reaches its estimated replacement point. By enabling Toner Continue Mode, the printer may continue printing after the Replace Toner warning appears.

Before you begin

Continue Mode does not refill or reset your toner cartridge. Print quality may become lighter as the remaining toner runs low, and the cartridge will still need replacing once the printer displays Toner Ended.

Ready LED On → Press Go 7 Times → LEDs Blink Twice
  1. Make sure the printer's front cover is closed and the machine is switched on.
  2. Check that only the Ready light is illuminated.
  3. Press the Go button 7 times.
  4. All LEDs will blink twice to confirm that Continue Mode has been enabled.

To turn it off: repeat the same steps. The LEDs will blink once when Continue Mode is disabled.

Brother HL Models with LCD Display

HL-L2350DW, HL-L2370DN, HL-L2370DW, HL-L2370DW XL and HL-L2375DW

General Setup → Replace Toner → Continue
  1. Press the Up or Down arrow button until General Setup appears, then press OK.
  2. Select Replace Toner, then press OK.
  3. Select Continue using the arrow buttons.
  4. Press Go to confirm.

Brother DCP and MFC Models with Menu Buttons

DCP-L2510D, DCP-L2530DW, DCP-L2550DN, MFC-L2710DN and MFC-L2710DW

Menu → General Setup → Replace Toner → Continue
  1. Press Menu.
  2. Use the arrow buttons to select General Setup, then press OK.
  3. Select Replace Toner, then press OK.
  4. Select Continue, then press OK.
  5. Press Stop/Exit to return to the main screen.

Brother MFC-L2730DW

Touchscreen control panel model

Settings → All Settings → General Setup → Replace Toner → Continue
  1. On the touchscreen, press Settings.
  2. Select All Settings, then General Setup.
  3. Select Replace Toner.
  4. Select Continue.
  5. Press the Home button to return to the main screen.

What happens after enabling Continue Mode?

Continue printing

The printer may continue printing after the Replace Toner message appears.

Check print quality

Pages may appear lighter or less consistent as the toner becomes depleted.

Replace when required

When the printer shows Toner Ended, the toner cartridge will need replacing.
